FINE ART GALLERY

Welcome to the Fine Art Gallery! Here you will find a variety of original hand rendered works created over the last two decades ranging in subject matter from fantasy and sci-fi to wildlife and the undersea.  Throughout the years I've used many mediums, however those I am most comfortable with are graphite and Prismacolor soft lead colored pencil on bristol.  In regards to digital painting I employ a Wacom Pen Tablet utilizing Adobe Photoshop as my canvas.

NEW FINE ART WORKS!

THE SUPERHERO SERIES

Beginning with "The Man of Steel" below, I plan on a new series based upon the heroes of DC and Marvel.  The Man of Steel, while a personal project for a good friend, also gives me the opportunity to diversify my fine art portfolio, especially in regards to color work.  As a child, Christopher Reeve made a huge impact on me, as did he to so many others, becoming the quintessential Superman in so many of our minds. His legacy will live on forever and so it brings great joy to me to do this piece.  My next project in the series will be a poster-esque rendition of The Dark Knight series, of which I've been previewing the progress of.  "The Dark Knight" will be fully digitally painted and meticulously detailed to nearly photo realistic.

DIABLO

Diablo was created as a contest entry for Design By Humans and Blizzard Entertainment.  It is currently up for public vote and featured on the front page of this blog with a link to preview.  Diablo again, provides me an opportunity to move away from just being a "Tolkien based artist" and where much of my previous fine art pieces were in black and white, I want to concentrate on color again in a broader range of subjects.  Diablo is an example of fully digitally rendered and painted art - from sketch to final detail, everything is done by way of a wacom pen tablet in Photoshop.  Other Photoshop techniques and tools were utilized for special effect to create the overall image.  Here, Diablo is presented portrait art style, however the full piece can be viewed upon the home page!

ORIGINAL PIECES INSPIRED BY THE WORKS OF J.R.R. TOLKIEN

I've always possessed a love for the fantasy and sci-fi genre, however nothing inspired me more to illustrate them than the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and the ensuing Lord of the Rings film series by Peter Jackson. In a very short period of time, my interest was so intense that I acclimated myself to much of Tolkien's writings and I began to develop a real thirst for creating renditions of his characters, settings and sequences. Over a decade ago, soon after The Fellowship of the Ring was released, I began a small rendition of Gollum and his former self, Smeagol in graphite pencil that would later be titled Smeagol's Demise (8th piece from top).  As I look back on the original image as well as the final piece, I can't help but consider how unsophisticated it is in comparison to the most currently completed To Bag End.  Still, Smeagol's Demise remains an example of how artistic ability is an ongoing journey, whose path becomes more clear with the passing of time yet with no apparent destination. In other words, it matters not how good you perceive yourself to be in any craft at any time, for you will always improve with practice and above all, patience.

EXCLUSIVE AND ORIGINAL FANTASY FINISHED PIECES

Ironically, my love for the fantasy art genre has not as of yet, translated into a portfolio of truly original hand illustrated finished pieces nor a wide variety of subject matter.  Alienation and Leviathons are two recent additions that happen to fall into this category.  Neither however, are truly considered "complete" as Alienations is currently in progress as a color piece and Leviathons remains a rather small sized original created entirely with ball point pen.  However both represent an interest to illustrate directly from imagination with no precedent to follow.  Onyxia however differs as it was created as an entry into the World of Warcraft fan art contest some years before and of course follows the lore and characters of the hugely successful franchise.

FINISHED WILDLIFE PIECES

A significant period in my development as a fine and commercial artist came from my employment with SCREENED IMAGES in 1998. Screened Images was a custom screen print and embroidery company based out of Lakewood, New Jersey and subsequently East Brunswick. My employer was largely an exotic bird and animal enthusiast that sought to market a garment line for pet stores, zoos and aquariums.  Over the course of a three year period, when contract art and printing was slower, I was given the opportunity to
