THE MAN OF STEEL

Due to the extremely popular nature of the subject matter a watermark has been added for copyright protection.

The Man of Steel - my latest piece is of course, a portrait of the late, great Christopher Reeve as Superman.  The original art was created at 11 inches by 14 inches, sketched in pencil then completely rendered using prismacolor soft lead color pencils.  Upon completion of the original, the image was scanned then further hand painted and embellished in Photoshop utilizing a Wacom pen tablet.

In regards to digital rendering, it is possible to achieve a level of detail that far exceeds what can be done by hand.  The reason for this is the ability to zoom up to levels the human eye simple cannot.  This presents a real crux for the artist as so much effort toward detail at a zoom level of say, 400 percent, will simply be unrecognizable once the image is printed at actual size.  The Man of Steel was no exception to this!

The piece will hopefully be a first in an ongoing series of super hero related art, which I intend to be more sophisticated in technique over the course.  I plan on doing a Dark Knight montage next, with Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne as the centerpiece and Batman looming behind.  Possible other characters from the series may be included, yet I have not begun the planning stages yet.

Personally, the original art for Man of Steel was gifted to my friend and creative cohort James Lincke, who's been a Superman aficionado all his life!  He is "going forward", taking bold steps toward realizing his artistic potential and this piece is a tribute to his ongoing journey...

Unfortunately, I cannot offer for sale, prints like The Man of Steel, for copyright infringement laws prohibit the resale of copyrighted characters.  I can however offer the ability to commission a totally original one of a kind piece!  So if anyone is interested in owning their very own original of a character that's near and dear to them, by all means get in touch with me via the contact page and I will be happy to discuss your vision and the terms it will take to realize it!
